Following their 63rd General Assembly, the Unites Nations General Assembly has declared 2011 the International Year of Chemistry. The year 2011 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awarded to Marie Curie, and an ideal opportunity to celebrate the role of women in science.

The year also marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies (IACS), which was succeeded by IUPAC a few years later. IACS and IUPAC were established to address the needs for international scientific communication and cooperation among chemists. Thus, in 2011 the world will celebrate the chemical sciences and their contributions to knowledge, environmental protection and economic development.

In this regard, the Moroccan 8th National Meeting of Heterocyclic Chemistry (RNCH8) is broadening its horizons as an International Symposium on heterocyclic chemistry and is open to chemists, economists and companies interested in various aspects of this branch of chemistry. It aims to be a forum where Moroccan and international participants can discuss the latest advances in the field of heterocyclic chemistry and forge contacts between different scientific, economic and social partners.

The Symposium is also an opportunity to present new chemical processes developed to meet the requirements of the 3rd millennium: new chemistry for sustainable development.
